Trademark Policy ​

1. Mapsted Trademarks ​

The following marks are trademarks or registered trademarks of Mapsted Corp. (collectively, the "Mapsted Marks"):

  • "Mapsted"™ — the word mark.
  • The Mapsted logo™ — the graphical mark. See §5 for authorised sources. The Mapsted logo is Copyright © 2014–2026 Mapsted Corp. All rights reserved. Copyright in the logo subsists independently of any trademark registration.
  • "Mapsted Maps JavaScript API"™ — the product name for the @mapsted/maps-js-api library.
  • "Mapsted Maps"™ — the brand name for Mapsted's indoor mapping platform.

Mapsted, the Mapsted logo, Mapsted Maps, and Mapsted Maps JavaScript API are trademarks of Mapsted Corp. in Canada, the United States, and other jurisdictions. A current list of registered marks, registration numbers, and jurisdictions is available upon request from info@mapsted.com.

Mapsted Corp. holds a portfolio of granted patents relating to indoor positioning and related technologies. A current list of patents is available upon request from info@mapsted.com.

2. Permitted Uses ​

The following uses of the Mapsted Marks do not require prior written approval from Mapsted Corp., provided they comply with the requirements in §4:

  1. Factual reference — referring to Mapsted Corp. or its products by name in factual, non-misleading descriptions. For example: "This application uses the Mapsted Maps JavaScript API to display indoor maps."

    When using a version number in a nominative reference, the format "Mapsted Maps JavaScript API v[X.Y]" is acceptable. The version suffix must accurately reflect the integrated version and must not be used in a way that implies separate product origin or endorsement of a specific version by Mapsted Corp. beyond what is factually true.

  2. Compatibility attribution — indicating that your application is built with, works with, or is compatible with the Mapsted Maps JavaScript API. The following approved attribution forms may be used:

    "Built with the Mapsted Maps JavaScript API by Mapsted Corp."

    "Compatible with the Mapsted Maps JavaScript API by Mapsted Corp."

    "Works with the Mapsted Maps JavaScript API by Mapsted Corp."

    Optionally accompanied by the unmodified Mapsted logo linked to https://www.mapsted.com and sourced as described in §5.

    Use "Compatible with" or "Works with" (rather than "Built with") when your integration wraps or adapts the API rather than embedding it directly, to accurately represent the technical relationship.

  3. Editorial and journalistic use — referencing Mapsted Corp. or the Mapsted Maps JavaScript API in editorial, academic, or journalistic content for the purpose of informing the public about Mapsted's products. This carve-out does not permit disclosure of any information that is subject to a confidentiality obligation under the applicable Licence Agreement (LA-MMA-001) or any signed commercial agreement. Where content references non-public technical details, the author bears sole responsibility for ensuring such disclosure is lawfully permitted.

  4. Non-commercial comparison — referring to Mapsted's products in a non-misleading technical comparison for personal or academic use (not for marketing a competing product — see §3).

3. Prohibited Uses ​

The following uses are prohibited without prior written authorisation from Mapsted Corp.:

  1. Implying endorsement or partnership — using any Mapsted Mark in a way that suggests or implies an official partnership, sponsorship, endorsement, or affiliation with Mapsted Corp. that does not exist.

  2. Logo modification — altering, distorting, recolouring, or otherwise modifying the Mapsted logo or any other graphical mark in any way.

  3. Confusion of origin — using any Mapsted Mark in a way that could reasonably cause confusion as to the source, origin, or ownership of goods or services.

  4. Generic or descriptive use — using "Mapsted" or any Mapsted Mark as a generic term for indoor mapping, indoor positioning, or wayfinding software (e.g., "We built our own mapsted system"). Mapsted Corp. actively monitors and enforces against generic use of the Mapsted Marks in order to preserve their distinctiveness and prevent abandonment. All users of the Mapsted Marks are requested to assist in this effort by using the Marks correctly and reporting suspected generic misuse to the contact listed in §7.

  5. Domain names and social media handles — registering any domain name, social media account name, or username that includes "Mapsted" or any confusingly similar variation, without prior written authorisation.

  6. White-labelling — presenting the Mapsted Maps JavaScript API or any Mapsted product as your own proprietary technology under a different brand name. Any white-label arrangement that is expressly authorised in a signed commercial agreement is subject to the confidentiality obligations set out in that agreement and in the Licence Agreement (LA-MMA-001); the existence and terms of such an arrangement must not be disclosed without Mapsted Corp.'s prior written consent.   7. Competitive marketing — using Mapsted Marks in promotional materials for products or services that compete with Mapsted's offerings.

4. Attribution Requirements for Licensees ​

4.1 Quality Control and Brand Integrity ​

All use of the Mapsted Marks by a Licensee is subject to the quality-control standards set out in the applicable Commercial Agreement. Mapsted Corp. retains the right to inspect, audit, and require modification of any use of the Mapsted Marks by a Licensee to ensure that such use meets Mapsted Corp.'s quality and brand standards. A Licensee's continued right to use the Mapsted Marks is conditional upon compliance with those standards. This quality-control provision is incorporated into, and must be read alongside, the Licensee's signed Commercial Agreement. Use of the Mapsted Marks in a manner inconsistent with the applicable Commercial Agreement or these quality-control standards constitutes a material breach that may result in revocation of all trademark usage rights.

Quality-control standards are set out in the applicable Commercial Agreement and incorporated by reference into this policy. In the event of conflict, the Commercial Agreement prevails.

4.2 Expiry and Revocation ​

The rights granted under this policy to any Licensee are coextensive with, and automatically expire or are revoked upon, the expiry or termination of the applicable Licence Agreement (LA-MMA-001) or signed commercial agreement, including termination for breach. Upon expiry or revocation, the Licensee must immediately cease all use of the Mapsted Marks and remove all attribution, branding, and references required or permitted under this policy.

4.3 Standard Attribution (Rendered Interfaces) ​

Licensees embedding the Software in customer-facing or public applications with a rendered user interface are required to display attribution to Mapsted Corp. in a manner specified by the applicable Commercial Agreement. The default attribution requirement is:

"Powered by Mapsted" (or "Built with Mapsted Maps")

displayed in a visible location within or adjacent to the map interface, with the Mapsted logo reproduced unmodified and linked to https://www.mapsted.com. Attribution language and placement requirements are defined in the Commercial Agreement template; in the event of conflict between the Commercial Agreement and this policy, the Commercial Agreement prevails.

4.4 Attribution for Headless, SSR, and API-Only Integrations ​

Where the Software is integrated in a context that does not produce a rendered map interface visible to end users — including but not limited to server-side rendering (SSR), headless API pipelines, and backend geospatial services — the attribution requirement is satisfied by any one of the following methods:

  • Footer attribution: including "Powered by Mapsted" (or "Built with Mapsted Maps") in the footer of any web page or application screen that presents data derived from the Software.
  • Meta attribution tag: including <meta name="generator" content="Mapsted Maps JavaScript API"> (or equivalent) in the <head> of any HTML document that presents data derived from the Software.
  • HTTP response header: including X-Powered-By: Mapsted Maps JavaScript API in HTTP responses that deliver data derived from the Software.

Licensees using SSR or headless integrations must select and implement at least one of the above methods. If none of the above is technically feasible in a given integration, the Licensee must contact Mapsted Corp. to agree on an alternative attribution method before deploying the integration. Where a Commercial Agreement specifies different or additional headless attribution methods, those terms prevail.

4.5 Attribution Preservation in Bundled and Minified Output ​

Attribution notices, copyright statements, and trademark acknowledgements required by this policy and by the Licence Agreement (LA-MMA-001) must be preserved in any bundled, minified, transpiled, or otherwise transformed output that incorporates the Software or any portion thereof. This obligation applies regardless of build toolchain and is consistent with the source-level attribution requirements set out in the Open Source Notices (OSN-MMA-001). Removal or suppression of attribution notices in build output constitutes a prohibited use under §3 item 4 of the Licence Agreement (LA-MMA-001).

5. Downloadable Brand Assets ​

Approved Mapsted logo files and usage guidelines are available at www.mapsted.com/brand-guidelines. Use of brand assets is subject to the terms of this policy.

5.1 Logo Reproduction Specifications ​

When reproducing the Mapsted logo, the following minimum specifications apply:

  • Format: PNG or SVG files sourced from the brand asset portal at www.mapsted.com/brand-guidelines. Do not use rasterised copies derived from web-rendered sources.
  • Minimum size: 24 px height for digital use; 10 mm height for print use.
  • Clear space: A clear space equal to 1× the logo height on all four sides of the logo must be maintained.
  • Resolution: For raster (PNG) reproduction, use a minimum of 144 dpi for digital and 300 dpi for print.
  • Colour: Use only the approved colour variants provided at the brand asset portal. Do not recolour or apply effects.

5.2 Content Security Policy (CSP) Compatibility ​

Licensees who operate a Content Security Policy (CSP) that would prevent loading images from mapsted.com may serve a locally hosted copy of the Mapsted logo, provided that:

(a) the locally hosted copy is sourced without modification from the brand asset portal referred to in §5;

(b) the copy is updated whenever Mapsted Corp. publishes a revised logo at the brand asset portal; and

(c) the copy is used solely for the attribution purpose described in §4 and must not be cached or distributed beyond the Licensee's own infrastructure.

This permission does not authorise any modification of the logo.

6. Co-Marketing and Derivative Arrangements ​

Where a Licensee and Mapsted Corp. have entered into a co-marketing, reseller, or official technology partnership arrangement that involves joint use of the Mapsted Marks or creation of co-branded materials:

  • The Licensee acknowledges that Mapsted Corp. asserts moral rights in the Mapsted logo and other graphical works to the fullest extent recognised by applicable law.
  • To the extent that applicable law permits, and solely for the purpose of the authorised co-marketing arrangement as described in the applicable written authorisation, the Licensee is granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable waiver of moral rights in any Mapsted-authorised derivative or co-branded materials created jointly under that arrangement. This waiver applies only to the specific co-branded deliverables expressly identified in the written authorisation and does not extend to any other use.
  • All co-branded materials remain subject to the quality-control provisions in §4.1.

7. Requesting Expanded Rights ​

If you require use of the Mapsted Marks beyond what is permitted in §2 — for example, for a co-marketing initiative, a reseller programme, or an official technology partnership — contact:

Requests will be evaluated by Mapsted Corp. on a case-by-case basis. Approved uses will be documented in a written authorisation.

8. Reporting Suspected Infringement ​

If you believe a third party is misusing Mapsted Marks, please report it to info@mapsted.com with a description of the suspected infringement and, where possible, a link or screenshot.

9. Governing Law ​

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with the enforcement of Mapsted's trademark rights under this policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice for equitable relief.
